The female gaze and my NFTs exploration

Hi everyone, it's been a month, and I feel a bit bad about not being able to keep up with my rhythm and provide weekly updates, but well, I am trying! Today, I want to share a project that is fascinating and inspiring.

The female gaze

The Female Gaze is a photographic print sale by 108 female* Belgian or Belgium based photographers in aid of the urgent humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Each photographer shares a photo and has an edition of 5 prints. The curation, communication, and execution of the project are well done. It's also a powerful statement and a community approach where photographers are connected and promoted. Supported by Canon Benelux, I am glad it's a collective action crossing different sectors.

In 2020, they successfully raised almost 36K, and this year a huge portion of the edition has sold out. The sale will continue until January 10, 2024. Please find a print you love, and let's keep the movement going. (link)

My first NFTs journey

After sharing the female gaze project with my colleagues, my manager asked why my work is not there. Well.... good question. Since I have been catching up with my passion of blockchain, I decided to craft my first NFTs for fundraising.

I have been in the coinbase/wallet ecosystem for a while. The easiest way is to use OpenSea. The process is super straight forward and simple (if you already have some eth and a wallet!) I'm really amazed how fast the industry is moving, more and more tools and platform are available and the UX has been improved dramatically.

After all, I created 3 copy of my favourite photo of the year, asking 0.6 eth per piece. Anyone who get it from me directly will receive a physical print as well. All the earning will go to Palestine. I'm still in search of if there is any chance I can donate directly to a personal or NGO's wallet. If you are interested in, go check it

One of the fast-growing projects of the year is Solana. That's why I can't miss the opportunity to try out their NFT creator tool, Metaplex creator studio too. It takes a bit more time since it requires a new wallet (Solflare), and I have to buy more SOL (I have staked all my SOL earlier). But the tool itself is super neat and straightforward.

I created a new collection called "Edition 2023: From the River to the Sea," and the idea is, instead of fundraising, I want to document news/videos so we can form a collective memory, and hopefully, one day justice will be in place. The first one I put up is called "Settlements 001". It's a short script from a video made by Vox, titled "Why Israeli settlements don’t feel like a conflict zone | Settlements Part II " (2016). I am still figuring out if I can invite more creators to contribute to the same collection, and there is more to learn in the Solana ecosystem. I will give more updates in the coming year, I promise :)

That's it for today, and for this year.
I will try my best to share more in 2024!! At the moment, if you have subscribed to my e-letter, thank you so much. It means a lot to me. And if you haven't, enter your email below, and you will get my letter directly to your mailbox. How nice?
